Mariah Carey has done one whale of a job turning Christmas into a busy season for herself, and this year’s holiday season is no exception. About thirty years ago, Carey released her own single titled All I Want For Christmas Is You. Little did she know how much that song would matter to her career.
Carey released a video featuring the song on Wednesday, but there was something a little different about it. In the video, we see Carey break through a block of ice. The video has a caption on it. Simply put, the caption reads: “It’s…TIME!!!”
Billboard came out with a report on this situation. Last year, Carey grossed $1.55 million in annual recording royalties. That’s for each time the song’s master recording is played or sold. Then, she added $830,000 in publishing royalties.
By the time 2017, rolled around, Carey’s song had generated more than $60 million since it was released. Carey also will be on the road at Christmas, The Economist reports. Those take place between November 15 and Dec. 17.
Mariah Carey Deals With Lawsuit Over Shirt
When it comes to this iconic Christmas classic, people love Carey’s carol. Some of them, though, are in business for themselves.
TMZ indicates that songwriters Andy Stone and Troy Powers are suing Carey for at least $20 million in damages over the hit holiday track. This is not the first time they have done something about the song. The duo previously attempted to sue the singer and Stone called her out for copying their song. New court documents indicate that Powers claims there are “substantial similarities in the lyrical hook, melody, and overall feel” between Carey’s song and their number.
The case is still in court and everyone is waiting to see what the judge rules.
Mariah, though, is not slipping. Singer Mariah Carey is tossing back the time clock just a little bit thanks to her amazing Halloween costume. Carey decked out in the red dress and bright lipstick, synonymous with Jessica Rabbit. Of course, the character made her first appearance in the movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit? But she has become one of the most popular Halloween characters.
