Dolly Parton minces no words or good vibes when she openly cheers for wanting goddaughter Miley Cyrus’ success at the Grammy Awards. Cyrus has picked up six Grammy nominations, all of which came from her latest album, Endless Summer Vacation.
“I know she’s nervous and excited, so I hope she does good,” Dolly Parton, who has 10 Grammy Awards in her history, told People. “I’m so happy for her. I just hope she wins as many as she can.” Parton spoke with the entertainment outlet about her new line of baking mixes from Duncan Hines.
Dolly Parton Is A Big Miley Cyrus Fan
Parton freely admits that she’s an unabashed fan of Miley Cyrus. Who can blame her? But she does hope that Cyrus’ No. 1 smash hit Flowers gets a lot of recognition. “I really love her song ‘Flowers,’” Parton said. “That was a big, big song this past year, and so I hope she wins everything.” Flowers is in line for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Solo Performance.
Parton, though, makes it clear that she’ll be proud of Cyrus no matter what. “I’ll be happy for her with whatever she does win,” Parton said. “She’s my little sweetheart. You know? My little goddaughter, so I feel very close to her. I know she’s nervous and excited, so I hope she does good.”
On Feb. 4, the Grammy Awards will mark the first time that she has received Grammy nominations. The event will be held at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
This year, Cyrus finds herself among the most nominated artists. Endless Summer Vacation is Cyrus’ eighth studio album. Her duet with Brandi Carlile on Thousand Miles garnered a Best Pop Duo/Group Performance nomination. Cyrus, with her album, has Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year nominations.
The bond between Parton and Cyrus is real and it runs deep. Miley Cyrus even helped out Parton as they sang her big hit Wrecking Ball for Parton’s Rockstar album. For this record, Dolly Parton stuck her toe into the world of rock and roll.
Auntie Parton Fully Backs Goddaughter
“I remember the first time I heard ‘Wrecking Ball,’ it hit me the same way as it did the first time I heard ‘I Will Always Love You’ by Whitney Houston,” Parton said in a promotional clip. “I was driving, heard that one, and I almost wrecked. And when I heard ‘Wrecking Ball,’ I almost wrecked again. I thought when it started into that chorus, ‘It hit me like a wrecking ball,’ I thought, ‘Well, how great can a song be?’”
Parton posted a clip of her and Cyrus singing together on Instagram. Parton wrote in the caption area, “I thought, I have to have that song on my rock album and I have to have Miley sing it with me! I love it and I hope you do!” the music legend wrote.”
Cyrus, though, also had a few words for her godmother. She also headed over to Instagram and posted this message: “I’ve grown up covering my Aunt Dolly’s music & it’s an honor to hear her singing one of my songs. I love you, Aunt Dolly! I’m so happy to add another collaboration under our bedazzled (studded leather) belt! We’re ROCKSTARS now! You can hear so much sweetness and love on this record. Excited to share it with everyone. Forever your Doll Baby, Miley.”
Parton has received a lot of recognition throughout her career. She’s shown an ability to cross over into different genres, including rock and country. She’s gone from teaming up with Porter Wagoner to selling millions of her albums. While getting a Grammy is a great honor, it seems as though it’s taken forever to put Cyrus on the board for one. Maybe Miley will win a couple and share her happiness with Dolly and her friends.
