Britney Spears is remembering the first time she met pop-culture icon, Taylor Swift.
Spears first heard the infamous songstress strum her guitar long before Swift was a billionaire chart-topper who broke the internet. As Spears recently shared on Instagram, the duo met in 2003, when Spears was at the height of her fame and Swift was an unknown 14-year-old with huge dreams.
In a Nov. 11 post, Britney Spears shared side-by-side photos of herself posing with the Cruel Summer singer. The first is from their first meeting, and the second is from 2008—when both singers were platinum-selling superstars.
“This is way back when but kinda cool …” Spears began. “During my Oops Tour, I got a knock at my door. My good friend at the time was the assistant to my manager who was trying to become a manager himself. There was a knock, and then he said, ‘I have a girl named Taylor who wants to come in and sing for you.’ I was like of course !!! [She] walks in, and she sings a beautiful song with her guitar. I was like wow wow she’s unbelievable !!! We took a picture, and she then became the most iconic pop woman of our generation.”
Britney Spears and Taylor Swift Shared a Hugely Successful 2023
Three years later, in 2006, Swift dropped her first hit, Tim McGraw. This year, she became an official billionaire after her massively successful Eras Tour. Swifties were so excited for a chance to score seats to the event that they waited online for hours—and caused the ticket sellers’ sites to crash.
“Kinda cool she plays stadiums, and I prefer her videos over movies any day. She’s stunning !!! Girl crush,” Spears added.
Britney Spears also enjoyed a successful 2023. While she isn’t topping charts as a singer, she is topping them as an author.
Her memoir, The Woman in Me, dropped on Oct. 24. In less than a month, it has sold over 1.1 million copies in the United States alone, according to The New York Times. The book also hit No. 1 on The New York Times Bestseller list on Nov. 1.
“Thank you to all the fans who made #TheWomanInMe a #1 @nytimes bestseller,” Spears wrote the day her book peaked. it means the world to me !!! Love you all.”
