Brenda Lee’s voice has been a staple of the Christmas season for many years and she’s giving her tune a new look. Well, it is that time of the year (almost) for Lee to sing Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree. People probably look forward to this song as much as they do Bing Crosby’s White Christmas.
If that’s so, then it is a testament to Lee’s recording lo these many years ago. Lee is still vibrant and active in her career. She’s so much so into it all that Lee has come out with the first official video for her song. While you may have seen clips of her on music or variety shows singing Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, there’s never been an official video.
Lee is celebrating the 65th anniversary of a song originally written by Johnny Marks. It’s one that Lee knows brings a lot of joy to people’s lives when they hear it.
“For those out there who know me and have supported me and my music through the years, I’m very proud to be putting out the first ever music video for ‘Rockin’,” Lee said, according to UDiscoverMusic. “This song has been so special to me—I never thought it would be my signature song, but I love that it is because it brings so much joy.
Brenda Lee Remembers Recording Her Song
“I remember the day I recorded this wonderful Johnny Marks song, and here we are 65 years later and I’m only here because of you,” she added. “I won’t ever meet all of you, but I know you are there and have been since I was a little girl—so Thank You and I wish everyone a Merry Christmas!”
If you want to catch Brenda Lee singing Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, then she’ll be doing it on NBC. Catch Christmas at the Opry on Thursday, Dec. 7, at 8 p.m. Eastern, 7 p.m. Central. It will head over to Peacock for streaming purposes the following day.
In the video, we see cameos by country music legends Tanya Tucker and Trisha Yearwood. But we also get to see Lee prepping for Christmas by trimming the tree. She’s also baking cookies for the season. And hey, guess who makes a surprise stop in the video? None other than Santa Claus himself.
Get a load of this. OK, so Lee’s song was released when she was just 13 years old. Would you believe that just last year, Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree happened to be the second-highest-streamed Christmas song? It had 240 million streams! Recently, the RIAA certified the song as 5x Platinum. Lee’s video has made its premiere on CMT, CMT Music, and Paramount Times Square Billboards.
