Working Girl managed to turn a lot of heads when it was released in 1988 and the movie’s stellar cast has gone on to have great careers. Mike Nichols directed Working Girls, which starred Melanie Griffith, Harrison Ford, Sigourney Weaver, Joan Cusack, and many others. This movie proved to be popular with both moviegoers and critics, too. Its worldwide box office total reached $120 million.
Melanie Griffith starred as Tess McGill, a secretary who truly desires to move on up from her current role. And she’s got a great idea, but cannot move forward with it due to her boss.
Sigourney Weaver plays Katharine Parker, Tess’ boss. McGill finds a way to move ahead when Parker breaks her leg on a ski trip. And who would the person be to help McGill out at this key time? Jack Trainer, an investment broker, played by Ford. As the movie goes along, McGill falls in love with Jack, much to the dismay of Parker.

Working Girl received six Oscar nominations, winning one for Carly Simon’s song Let the River Run.

Melanie Griffith went on to appear in projects like Nobody’s Fool, Now and Then, Mulholland Falls, Born Yesterday, The Pirates of Somalia, The High Note, and others. She was married twice to actor Don Johnson and both share a daughter, Dakota. Griffith also married Steven Bauer between 1981 and 1989 with Alexander as their son. The Working Girl star went on to marry Antonio Banderas from 1996 until 2015 with Stella, a daughter, as their child.
‘Working Girl’ Also Put Harrison Ford in Key Role
Harrison Ford came into this movie with a name hooked into two powerful franchises in Star Wars and Indiana Jones. After finishing Working Girl, Ford went on to star in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Patriot Games, and The Fugitive. He also appeared recently in the Taylor Sheridan TV series 1923 and reprised Jones one last time for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
Harrison Ford has four children from two previous marriages. He’s currently married to Calista Flockhart and adopted her son, Liam.
Sigourney Weaver, earlier in the decade, starred as Dana in Ghostbusters. Other projects she’s worked on include Alien, Copycat, A Map of the World, Prayers for Bobby, and Avatar. Weaver is married to stage director Jim Simpson and they share a daughter, Charlotte.
Alec Baldwin appeared in Working Girl as Mick Dugan. The actor has appeared in movies and TV shows, too. Among his credits are The Hunt for Red October, A Streetcar Named Desire, Notting Hill, My Sister’s Keeper, and Motherless Brooklyn. He’s also been a regular host over the years on Saturday Night Live.
Alec Baldwin, Joan Cusack Have Important Parts to Play
Alec Baldwin was married to Kim Basinger and shares a daughter with her. He married Hilaria Baldwin in 2012 and they have seven children in their marriage.
Joan Cusack went on to make appearances in Instant Family, Runaway Bride, School of Rock, and My Sister’s Keeper. She supplied her voice for Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 4. Cusak is married to Richard Burke and they share two sons, Dylan and Miles.
Philip Bosco played Oren Trask in the flick. Bosco also appeared in Blue Steel, The Civil War, Wonder Boys, and Shaft. Bosco won a Tony Award for his work in Lend Me a Tenor. He died in 2018 from complications with dementia. Bosco had seven children with his wife, Nancy. Bosco was 88.
