The ‘Pigeon Lady’ From ‘Home Alone’ Looks Unrecognizable Today

Fans of the Home Alone movies might remember seeing the “Pigeon Lady” — played by Brenda Fricker, meeting Kevin in Central Park. Well, Fricker played the character in Home Alone 2: Lost In New York in 1992. In the past few years, Fricker has been through some physical and mental health issues. She does not look the same these days.

Fricker is now 78 and pretty much keeps her own company. Back in 2021, she showed up as a guest on Irish comedian Tommy Tiernan’s show. Fricker talked about her life and opened up a little bit about her struggles.

She told Tiernan that she lives “a very quiet life well under the radar.” Fricker goes on to say, “I drive a tiny car, own a cottage, that’s about it. Nothing different than anybody else does, except being alone so much can make you talk to the wall a bit more than most people.”

Fricker openly admitted to Tiernan that she does struggle with depression. When appearing on his show, she talked about a recent doctor’s appointment. “Only yesterday, I went to the doctor, and he said, ‘We’re going to put you on stronger antidepressants.’ Because I am a bit of a recluse.”

She also expressed her gratitude toward her “wonderful doctor,” Anthony Claire. Fricker said that he helped her “feel good” at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Dublin.

“It was very difficult…he saved my life,” Fricker said. “He really got me out of the mire. Just wonderful, just a wonderful brain, just knowing you and just getting to you. I just walked out happy when I was in his company.”

In an earlier public appearance on a Radio 1 show hosted by Ray Darcy, Fricker talked about spending Christmas “home alone” in 2020. “I’m 75 now, and I would be lying if I said it would be a nice and happy Christmas because I’m one of those people,” she said. “I am old, and I live alone, and it can be very dark. The bells are ringing, and there is no one to turn around to and hug and smile, and I can’t get away from the bells; there are churches everywhere.”

Fricker, though, entered the Home Alone universe with some sterling credentials. She became the first Irish actress in 1990 to capture an Academy Award. It was for being the Best Supporting Actress in her role in My Left Foot. She’s a native of Dublin and has worked in both theater, film, and television. Fricker has more than 30 roles to her credit as she’s worked for more than six decades in her career.

Additional Work Includes TV Appearance

Last year, Fricker played Phyllis in four episodes of a show titled The Catch. She also provided her voice for a character named Maureen in The Miracle Club. Earlier film work includes So I Married An Axe Murderer, Angels in the Outfield, and A Time to Kill.

Macauley Culkin, who, of course, played Kevin in the first two Home Alone movies, did not return for No. 3. In Home Alone 2, Kevin did battle against the two bad guys who tried to break into his home. Remember those guys? They were played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern.
