‘The Bikeriders’ Director Admits He’s Never Seen ‘Sons of Anarchy’

The upcoming 2024 film The Bikeriders is said to successfully immerse audiences into the adrenaline-fueled world of motorcycle club mythology. This is a realm that fans of Sons of Anarchy should find particularly captivating. Oddly enough, the director of the film, Jeff Nichols, might not see the connection.

How is it possible that he could miss such an obvious comparison? He’s never actually seen Sons of Anarchy.

In a recent interview with Variety, Nichols was brutally honest about his Sons of Anarchy fanhood… or lack thereof. “I’ve never seen an episode of ‘Sons of Anarchy.’ I don’t even know what it’s about,” said Nichols. Despite this, critics who have seen the film admit that, if you like Sons of Anarchy, you’ll probably like The Bikeriders.

‘The Bikeriders’ Plot Has Major SOA Vibes

If you read the official plot summary for The Bikeriders, you’ll see why the SOA connection is being made. The film, which stars Austin Butler, Jodie Comer, and Tom Hardy, sounds like a good time for SOA fans.

Inspired by Danny Lyon’s iconic book of photography, “The Bikeriders” immerses you in the look, feel, and sounds of the bare-knuckled, grease-covered subculture of ’60s motorcycle riders. Kathy (Comer), a strong-willed member of the Vandals who’s married to a wild, reckless bike rider named Benny (Butler), recounts the Vandals’ evolution over the course of a decade, beginning as a local club of outsiders united by good times, rumbling bikes, and respect for their strong, steady leader Johnny (Hardy). Over the years, Kathy tries her best to navigate her husband’s untamed nature and his allegiance to Johnny, with whom she feels she must compete for Benny’s attention. As life in the Vandals gets more dangerous, and the club threatens to become a more sinister gang, Kathy, Benny, and Johnny are forced to make choices about their loyalty to the club and to each other.
