Hayden Christensen has been a part of the Star Wars world going back to his teenage years, so is there a return to Darth Vader in the works? Christensen has found his way back to the franchise. He has appeared in Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka. For the actor, he feels a bit more connected to his work right now. Christensen addresses his future during an interview for Entertainment Weekly‘s Dagobah Dispatch podcast.
“I would love to get to do more, and I’d love to get to continue with Star Wars and we’ll see,” Christensen said. “I don’t know what the future holds, and if such an opportunity presents itself, I’ll be there with a big smile on my face. And if it doesn’t, I feel really grateful for getting to come back and getting to do the work that I did in both Obi-Wan and Ahsoka.”
When working on Obi-Wan Kenobi and Ahsoka, a certain force was missing. That’s right. George Lucas was nowhere to be found. So, how was it for Christensen to be working on these without Lucas being present?
Hayden Christensen Works Without George Lucas Present
“At first, I felt like I was cheating on him a little bit,” Christensen said, laughing. “But it’s a different time for Star Wars now, and I think it’s really exciting that we now have this period where there are other storytellers coming in and giving their take on the universe. But, of course, it all goes back to the maker, and George Lucas is very much in the front of everyone’s mind when we’re making a decision and we want to make stuff that he would be happy with for sure.”
As a teenager, Christensen was a star during the time those prequels were being done. He’s still a star, of course. Now, though, he’s re-engaging with the material with a different perspective. One will see things differently in their 40s than when they are younger.
Christensen, during the interview, does allude to having a greater appreciation for the entire franchise. “When I was doing the prequels, every day I was there, I was very aware of how fortunate I was,” he said. “And the same is true now. I think as I’ve gotten a bit older, I have perhaps a greater appreciation and more of an awareness of the impact of these stories and what they mean to so many people.”
Actor Takes Appreciative Look Backwards
It must be a trip for him to see his film work in his 20s. Between that time and the present for Christensen, a lot of things have taken place. He’s gotten older, and so have those films. Yet they have aged well with time, Christensen said. He said that he’s “very proud” of those two films.
Christensen has taken a little bit of a step back from his acting career. That’s over now. He’s chomping at the bit to go be part of another project. Christensen said so when talking to the storyteller in this podcast.
“Yeah, it’s definitely reignited a spark in me to want to work more,” he said. “And prior to coming back to Obi-Wan, I’d sort of taken a long break from acting, but now I’m in a place where I am reading a lot, and if I can find a project that I’m passionate about, then that’s definitely the aim.”
