Lindsay Lohan Confirms ‘Freaky Friday’ Sequel On the Way With Jamie Lee Curtis

Rumors of a Freaky Friday sequel with Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis have been around for years, and the movie is finally in the works. Over twenty years after they played mother and daughter in the 2003 film, the actresses are reuniting for a sequel.

On Monday, Lohan formally announced the news on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live when host Andy Cohen inquired about the sequel rumors. “It is,” Lohan teased about the forthcoming sequel. “I don’t want to say too much.” Lohan added, “And we’re both excited,” referring to her costar Curtis. “I’m gonna speak for Jamie,” she joked.

Rumors of ‘Freaky Friday 2’ With Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis Have Swirled for Years

Curtis mentioned her interest in revisiting Freaky Friday after meeting fans during press for her 2022 film Halloween Ends. “As I went around the world with Halloween Ends, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday,” Curtis told The New York Times.

“Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.’”

Lohan promptly responded to Curtis’s comments, sharing her own eagerness to make a comeback. After less than a year, it was officially announced that a sequel to Freaky Friday was in the works, with both leading actors anticipated to reprise their roles

Reportedly, plans were in place to commence filming for Freaky Friday 2 in 2024. Yet, a significant hurdle emerged in 2023. Curtis and Lohan participated in SAG-AFTRA’s strike. Meanwhile, writer Elyse Hollander stood in solidarity with fellow writers on picket lines during the Writer’s Guild of America’s quest for a more equitable industry.

Freaky Friday is adapted from Mary Rodgers’ 1972 novel. It tells the story of a mother and daughter who swap bodies through a mystical Chinese fortune cookie. Curtis and Lohan portray the mother-daughter duo, while Mark Harmon stars as Curtis’ fiancé in the movie.

The 2003 film featuring Lohan and Curtis marked the third adaptation of the novel. The first adaptation was in 1976 starring Barbara Harris and Jodie Foster. Meanwhile, another adaptation dropped in a 1995 TV movie with Shelly Long and Gaby Hoffmann.

Disney Channel later transformed Freaky Friday into a musical film in 2018, starring Cozi Zuehlsdorff and Heidi Blickenstaff. However, this would mark the first time a Freaky Friday adaptation garnered a sequel.
