Julia Stiles Reenacts Iconic ’10 Things I Hate About You’ Moment

For Julia Stiles, bringing her character from 10 Things I Hate About You back to life wasn’t as easy as it might look. Stiles gave her fans a new look at Katarina “Kat” Stratford from the movie. She performed at the Mash-Up Americans Book Festival in New York City.

In the movie, Stiles stars alongside Heath Ledger. Well, Ledger died in 2008 at 28 years old. Reading through the dialogue again made Stiles pause and reflect. Ledger played Patrick Verona, who is on the receiving end of Stiles’ speech, Deadline reports.

Stiles does her best to read a “hateful” poem made out to Verona.

“I hate the way you’re always right. I hate it when you lie,” the poem reads in part. “(And) I hate it when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry.” Stiles gets a little choked up near the end of her reading. She’s probably thinking and remembering her time with Ledger.

Besides 10 Things I Hate About You, other popular films of Ledger’s include A Knight’s TaleCasanovaThe Dark Knight, and Brokeback Mountain, among many others.

Julia Stiles Also Showed Up On ‘Saturday Night Live’

While Stiles did this bit of business, she also made an appearance last Saturday on Saturday Night Live. The actress showed up to help SNL cast member Chloe Fineman. During the Weekend Update segment, Fineman came out and she was dressed in a Christmas robe. She wanted to introduce a “sexy gift idea.”

Fineman added, “The perfect holiday gift this year is the dance that Julia Stiles does at the end of the 2001 movie Save the Last Dance.”

At that point, Fineman disrobed to show an all-black look. It matched Stiles’ character’s look in the movie.

So, Fineman starts dancing “Street/Ballet,” which bears a resemblance to Sara’s last dance.

Colin Jost, who is sitting at the Weekend Update desk, asked Fineman, “So does she get into Julliard..?” Stiles jumped into the picture and said, “Yes! Sara did get into Julliard.”

“How?” Jost asks her. “Well, you didn’t see the end of the dance,” Stiles said. Fineman yelled, “Hit it!” and that led to Stiles and Fineman dancing.

Besides these movies, Stiles made a name for herself by appearing in the Bourne movies alongside Matt Damon. She’s also done some TV work in the past, showing up for a season on Dexter. Other movie work has included The Great Gilly Hopkins and Misconduct.

Stiles is married and has one child. She’s been able to work in movies and television while making time for her family.
