Julia Roberts Reveals Which ‘Pretty Woman’ Character She Believes is Dead

Leave it to Julia Roberts to put the smack right down on one of her movie career’s most interesting characters. Roberts, who played Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman, believes that Richard Gere’s Edward is dead these days.

“I think he passed away peacefully in his sleep from a heart attack, smiling,” Roberts told Gayle King of CBS Mornings. “And now she runs his business.” This started Roberts going down a rabbit hole, led by King, regarding a number of characters in her movies. King wanted to know what Roberts thought might have happened to them, according to EW.com.

Edward Lewis was a businessman in the 1990 rom-com. He paid sex worker Vivian to masquerade as his girlfriend at functions for one week. But they end up falling in love, which complicates their deal.

Julia Roberts Believes Love Exists In ‘Runaway Bride’

What about Gere’s character in Runaway Bride? Roberts thinks they would still be in a committed relationship, even with her commitment-phobic character Maggie. “They stay together. He doesn’t die in this one,” she joked. “They’re gonna stay together.”

Roberts also believes that Daisy from Mystic Pizza and Charles (Adam Storke) would still be together.

Roberts said, “Let’s hope they’re still together and they have a bunch of cute little kiddos.”

In addition, looking at 1999’s Notting Hill, Roberts believes her Anna also would have some kids with William, the bookstore owner played by Hugh Grant. “She’s retired,” Roberts told King. “She has six children and has maintained her waist size, amazingly. He runs the bookshop still. And now there’s a little knitting annex to the bookshop that she runs.”

In a bit of news from The Pelican Brief, Roberts said her Darby would be definitely dating Gray (Denzel Washington) by the time the movie ends. “To me, at the end of the movie, they’re absolutely together,” she said.¬†King adds, “They’re watching TV. She’s watching him on TV.”

Actress Thinks ‘Pelican Brief’ Characters Are An Item

“Yeah. And then the journalist says, ‘Well, your source seems too good to be true,’” Roberts said. “And he says, in a way that only Denzel can, ‘She just might be.’ And then in slow motion, I put my head down with my cheeks pink, and that says it all to me.”

Roberts said she thought everybody believed that Daisy and Gray were an item by the end. “I think he’s in love with her,” she said. “She’s in love with him.”

Roberts’ fans looking for her in another movie can go see 2023’s Leave the World Behind. It is airing right now on Netflix.
