‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ Trailer Released, Watch Now

Get ready to ride again as the Ghostbusters are taking care of business in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, coming out soon. A trailer for the movie was released on Monday, giving us a look at this new flick. Longtime fans will be happy to see Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson, all from the original movie, in this one. Annie Potts also is back as Janine Melnitz, secretary to the Ghostbusters herself. And yes, she answers the phone by simply asking, “Ghostbusters, what do you want?”

But there are some recognizable faces in this movie, too. They include Patton Oswalt, Finn Wolfhard, Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, and Kumail Nanjiani.

‘Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire’ Presents New Fight

In this movie, we find the Ghostbusters doing battle, in a sense, with Mother Nature. Although, this mother is pretty cold. The short movie synopsis about Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire says, “Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.”

Also, among the returning entities making their presence felt will be Slimer! He’s here to spread his, well, his stuff around for other people. That includes Dr. Peter Venkman, Murray’s character in the movie.

While a lot of the “old gang” is here, one important person isn’t around. Harold Ramis, who played Egon Spengler, died in 2014. Ramis was a part of the initial movie and its sequel, Ghostbusters 2. Fret not, though. There is a Spengler represented here. Coon plays Callie Spengler, while Wolfhard plays Trevor Spengler, and Mckenna Grace plays Phoebe Spengler.

William Atherton, another familiar face from earlier Ghostbusters movies, returns to appear as Walter Peck. Fans can expect to see Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire to open up in theaters on March 22.

For this movie, Gil Kenan is its director. Jason Reitman, son of the late Ivan Reitman, who directed the franchise’s first film, is on board as a co-writer.

After news broke about Kenan becoming director, he issued a statement connected to the Ghostbusters storyline.

“It’s an absolute honor to pick up the proton pack and step behind the camera for the next chapter of the Spengler family saga,” Kenan said, according to Do You Remember. “I just wish I could go back to 1984 and tell the kid in the sixth row of the Mann Valley West that one day he was going to get to direct a ‘Ghostbusters’ film.”

Movie Will Pay Homage To Late Ivan Reitman

Ivan Reitman directed the first two Ghostbusters movies, then had a hand in the subsequent ones as a producer. Sadly, Ivan Reitman died in February 2022. Reportedly, Reitman will have a posthumous credit as a producer on this film. Additionally, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will be dedicated to his memory.

The Columbia Pictures film will be released under the umbrella of Sony Pictures Releasing. When Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 were released, both did quite well at the box office. The studio is hoping this latest movie will catch lightning in a bottle once again.

Old-school fans of Ghostbusters probably will get a kick out of seeing Murray, Aykroyd, and Hudson reprise their roles. The same can be said for Potts and Atherton, too. It provides old and new fans with a cohesive storyline, at least through characters, to follow.
