Another ‘Bridget Jones’s Diary’ Sequel Set to Start Filming in May

For fans of Renee Zellweger playing the lead role in Bridget Jones’s Diary, get ready for a new sequel coming to theaters. Right now, the movie is in pre-production but filming is due to start in May. Zellweger is due to be back in her iconic role, joined along the way by Colin Firth and Hugh Grant. They will be a part of what is being called Bridget Jones’ Diary 4 right now. But what exactly they will do is being worked out. Of course, fans of the franchise know that Firth and Grant played the romantic interests of Bridget.

“Filming is being mapped out already and all of the pre-production is in place,” according to a source who spoke to the Daily Mail. “There was some uncertainty about whether it would get off the ground, but the movie is coming. Renée is excited about bringing Bridget back. She adores the character so much. Bridget Jones fever is expected to sweep across London this spring.”

‘Bridget Jones’s Diary 4’ Is Taking Shape

As the film is in pre-production, there also is a lot of work taking place on the script, Elle reports. Another source indicates that a “devastating twist” will be pivotal to Bridget Jones’ Diary 4. Of course, Bridget Jones’ fans are aware of her adventures through the first three movies. In the last one titled Bridget Jones’ Baby, she married Mark Darcy (Firth). Her other love interest was Daniel Cleaver (Grant), who died in a plane crash.

Author Helen Fielding originally wrote Bridget Jones’ Diary, which has become an international phenomenon after all these years. She continues to watch how new movies are created from her works.

Zellweger admitted as far back as 2019 that she’d be ready to play Jones again. She brought it up while appearing on the CBS show The Talk. “Bridget Jones: The Menopause,” she said jokingly. “No, I know Helen’s [Fielding] written the book, and I love this character. So, I mean, if they call me, I’ll go running.”

Well, Renee better put on her running shoes and get going.

In 2020, while making an appearance on a BBC special titled Being Bridget Jones, Zellweger talked about her connection with the main character. “All the things that you would most like not to have in common with Bridget are the things that I find I relate to most closely,” Zellweger said. “I’ve had moments when I feel like I’m sitting beside myself watching my Bridget alter ego just spiraling, circling the drain.”

Colin Firth Recalls Fight Scene With Hugh Grant

Longtime fans of this franchise will remember when Firth and Grant threw down in the first movie. Firth recalled that moment that happened on the big screen in a 2021 interview with Yahoo! Entertainment.

“As you can probably tell, we just made it up,” Firth said. “They always tell you that you can’t do that — [fights] have to be choreographed. But we just thought, ‘We’re playing a couple of cowardly, angry, and frightened yuppies: how the hell would we know how to set a punch?’”

This movie franchise has fans not only in Great Britain but in the United States and other countries, too. It will be interesting to see what producers and writers come up with as far as a script or idea is concerned. While they do have the previous movies to use as a backdrop, they will want Bridget Jones in a new situation.

Of course, with Firth and Grant expected to play a role here, seeing how Bridget deals with them is part of the next film’s intrigue. Fans may have their ideas on what they want to see. When the movie reportedly will be released in May, fans will welcome Bridget back into their arms.
