Looking back at all the cult movie fun that came out in the 1980s, there are some that fans will rally around and see. Mind you, some of these cult classics might not have won Oscars or been huge box office hits. Yet they have their followings to this very day.
In fact, it would not surprise a lot of people to know that these movies are part of people’s home movie collections. Let’s take a trip back to the 1980s and see what cult classics are still beloved at this time.
They Live (1988)
Professional wrestler (you read that right) Roddy Piper stars as Nada in this John Carpenter movie. Now, Nada is a wanderer who does not have a lot of direction in his life. But things definitely change when some sunglasses help him to see the world in a sense of reality. Meg Foster and Peter Jason also star in this 1988 cult movie flick.
The Goonies (1985)
In this Richard Donner cult film from 1985, a group of kids call themselves the Goonies. They happen to discover an ancient map and make it their goal to track down the lost treasure of a pirate. Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, and Ke Huy Quan star in this popular movie.
Beverly Hills Cop (1984)
Eddie Murphy, who was absolutely red hot in 1984, stars as Axel Foley, a Detroit cop who has his own style when it comes to doing his work. But he runs into some Beverly Hills offers and has to deal with their own way of going about their work. Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, and Ronny Cox also are part of the cult movie cast.
The Thing (1982)
In another John Carpenter film, this time from 1982, moviegoers find a research team that happens to be in Antarctica for work. Yet they have to deal with an alien who is able to take the shape of his victims. Kurt Russell, Wilford Brimley, T.K. Carter, and Keith David are part of this cult movie’s amazing cast.
The Lost Boys (1987)
Two brothers happen to move to a new town where they will live. When they get there, though, they happen to discover that it’s a hotbed for vampires. Joel Schumacher directed this 1987 cult movie release. Check out this cast: Jason Patric, a young Kiefer Sutherland, Barnard Hughes, Corey Haim, and Corey Feldman.
Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982)
This cult movie, made back in 1982 and directed by Amy Heckerling, showcases a number of Southern California high schoolers enjoying the finer things in life. And this movie had one whale of a cast. Check this out: Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judge Reinhold, Phoebe Cates, and Ray Walston.
