The Walking Dead universe continues to expand, and a new trailer for the upcoming Rick and Michonne spin-off just dropped. The sneak peek premiered at the New York Comic Con just yesterday. However, the clip was posted to The Walking Dead’s YouTube, as seen below.
Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes and Danai Gurira’s Michonne are set to make their return to the small screen in February with The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. In advance of New York Comic Con, AMC has unveiled new photos and casting information. Terry O’Quinn, known for his role as John Locke on the hit series Lost, is set to join the show as the character Beale. Of course, O’Quinn has genre chops outside of Lost. He appeared in The X-Files and played the titular sinister deranged dad in The Stepfather.
Meanwhile, a familiar face is also set to return for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. Pollyanna McIntosh will reprise her role as Janis, who was last seen in the spin-off The World Beyond. However, the character was first introduced in the main series and appeared for three seasons. Janis has a complicated relationship with Rick, which is at times antagonistic. She even threw Rick into a gladiatorial fight against a modified uber-zombie. Still, the character saved Rick from certain death in one of his last appearances in the original series.
Matt Jeffries debuts on The Ones Who Live as Nat, a fresh addition to the cast. Meanwhile, it was previously revealed that Lesley-Ann Brandt will be portraying the character Pearl.
What to Expect From This ‘The Walking Dead’ Spin-off
Rick and Michonne’s spinoff will feature the dynamic duo battling the CRM, the most pervasive group in the zombie franchise. This six-episode series unveils the untold story of their journey after leaving the original show. With a focus on Michonne’s mission to rescue her husband, the series promises to captivate viewers. A glimpse into their adventure shows Rick’s daring escape from the CRM. Meanwhile, Michonne channels a samurai, appearing adorned with armor, mounted on a horse.
In the latest trailer, it’s clear that Rick is working with the CRM to eliminate Walkers in a specific location. He’s wearing the same CRM jacket from The Walking Dead series finale, implying that these scenes happen before his escape attempt. If this is true, the spinoff will cover significant periods in Rick and Michonne’s journeys as they strive to return home safely.
During its NYFF panel, AMC dropped another major revelation for The Walking Dead fans. Melissa McBride will be joining Norman Reedus in the second season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which is subtitled The Book of Carol. Both projects are set to drop in 2024.
