How Tall is James Bond? How the 007 Actors Measure Up to the Novels

James Bond is a highly renowned character in film history, with a passionate fanbase that expects meticulous accuracy, even how tall he is. Of course, 007 actually began in literature. The character debuted in author Ian Fleming’s Casino Royale, released in 1953.

In the world of James Bond, one aspect that diverges between the books and the movies is the consistency of Bond’s appearance. While various actors have portrayed Bond on screen, Ian Fleming’s depiction of Bond remains remarkably unchanged throughout his novels.

In the books, James Bond is portrayed as lean, standing six feet tall and weighing 168 lbs. He sports short black hair and blue-grey eyes. Notably, a long, thin scar runs vertically across his right cheek, serving as a permanent reminder of his encounters.

Of course, actors of varying heights have played James Bond over the years, regardless of how tall he is in the books. Get ready for a Bond size comparison, from vertically challenged to towering agents!

Daniel Craig… the Shortest Bond

Daniel Craig is James Bond to a generation of fans. He first appeared as Bond in Casino Royale in 2006 and continued until No Time to Die in 2021. According to Celeb Heights, Craig is around 5’10” feet tall, making him the shortest actor to portray James Bond.

Most James Bond Actors Stand at Around 6’1″

Standing at 6’1″, Roger Moore portrayed the role of 007 in numerous films, including Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun, Moonraker, Octopussy, and A View to a Kill. Meanwhile, Pierce Brosnan also stands 6’1″. The Irish actor played Bond in movies such as GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Die Another Day.” Timothy Dalton, who played 007 in The Living Daylights and License to Kill also is around 6’1″.

George Lazenby played James Bond in just one film, 1969’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. He reportedly clocks in at 6’1″(and 3/4).

The Tallest James Bond… Sean Connery

Of course, this leads us to arguably the most famous 007, Sean Connery. He kicked off his tenure as Bond in 1962’s Dr. No. He played the character seven times, setting the standard for all future 007’s. Fittingly, he’s the tallest James Bond, at 6’2″.

Reportedly, the height of the actor is a huge requirement for the next actor to replace Daniel Craig. Producers supposedly want a tall James Bond and one that is young enough to play him in at least three films. That likely rules out Spider-Man actor Tom Holland, who famously threw his hat in the Bond race in 2021. Holland stands at just 5’8″.

However, the young actor seems okay with it. “I’d be like a really short James Bond,” he quipped to Variety at the time.
