‘Fantastic Four’ Movie’s New Cast Announced Via Valentine’s Day Card to Fans

Marvel’s first family, the Fantastic Four, has finally been cast after nearly a decade of speculation by fans. Dropping the new The Fantastic Four cast with a Valentine on X (formerly Twitter), it was revealed that Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Stranger Things fan favorite Joseph Quinn will star in the movie.

“Happy Valentine’s Day from Marvel’s First Family! Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn are The Fantastic Four,” the post read alongside the image. The artwork depicts the actors as the iconic characters, with a fitting 1960’s motif.

The casting ends years of speculation about the team’s potential actors. The film will be directed by Matt Shakman from WandaVision. The script was written by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer, with contributions from Josh Friedman, the writer of Avatar: The Way of Water.

Marvel fans seemed overall positive about the Fantastic Four casting news. “Woooooo congratulations! This’ll be amazing! What a cast! Dare I say… Fantastic,” a Fantastic fan quipped. “The cast is PERFECT,” another added. “Count me as another person who think they nailed the casting,” another comic book lover chimed in.

Other fans loved the overall 1960s vibe of the image. “If that’s an official logo and image, then Marvel are entirely on the right tracks here,” one fan wrote on X. “That logo! Those suits! That cast! I really hope they are leaning into the retro-futurism!” another fan enthused.

‘The Fantastic Four’ Cast Announcement Follows Years of Speculation

Of course, the Fantastic Four holds a special place in the Marvel mythos. Writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby brought this iconic team to life in 1961 with the release of Fantastic Four No. 1, a comic that marked the birth of the Marvel Universe. Among comic book enthusiasts, they are fondly referred to as Marvel’s Founding Family.

The casting of the Fantastic Four has garnered significant attention and sparked rampant speculation, with online fan castings dominating the conversation. John Krasinski, known for his role in The Office, has long been a fan-favorite choice to portray Reed Richards. In the May 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Krasinski portrayed a version of Richards, whose character met an unfortunate demise.

Fantastic Four has consistently been one of Marvel’s most highly anticipated films, largely because its iconic team has never received the proper treatment on the silver screen. In 1994, a low-budget version of the film was produced by Roger Corman, although it was ultimately never released.

Meanwhile, the “Fantastic Four” films released in 2005 and 2007 featured an ensemble cast including Jessica Alba, Ioan Gruffudd, Chris Evans, and Michael Chiklis. The failed 2015 reboot introduced Michael B. Jordan, Miles Teller, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell to portray the iconic characters.

The new The Fantastic Four film is set to drop in theaters on July 25, 2025.
