Clerks is getting the deluxe box set treatment. Kevin Smith’s three-film saga about convenience store workers will be collected by Amazon. The Clerks Premium Box Collection will feature all three films of the trilogy, including Smith’s debut feature, 1994’s Clerks, and its sequels from 2006 and 2022. The films will find their home in a replica of the legendary Quick Stop convenience store seen in the films.
The box set showcases an impressive three-dimensional miniature replica of the Quick Stop Groceries and RSV Video storefronts, designed to house the Blu-ray collection. Additionally, it includes a replica VHS return slot for the DVD box, a collection of cling stickers with clever in-jokes from the series and Smith’s other films to customize the wall, and a certificate of authenticity. This set will be available on November 7, 2023, exclusively through Amazon.
However, you might need to ask your manager for some extra hours: the retail price is $129.99.
The ‘Clerks’ Box Set will Serve as a Time Capsule for Three Decades
Clerks tell the tale of Dante (Brian O’Halloran), a beleaguered convenience store clerk, and his buddy Randal (Jeff Anderson), who works at the video rental next door. It captures the chaos of a memorable workday at Quick Stop Groceries in Leonardo, New Jersey.
Made with a shoestring budget of around $27,000 and filmed in lo-fi black-and-white, Clerks surprised everyone at Sundance in 1994. The then-novel dialogue about nerdy topics like Star Wars and comic books captured the attention of Generation X.
This catapulted Smith into the limelight as one of the coolest indie directors of the 90s. Characters Jay and Silent Bob, played by Jason Mewes and Smith himself, became iconic figures in Smith’s “View Askewniverse” films. The pair even made a very NSFW cameo appearance in 2001’s Scream 3.
However, the characters in Smith’s debut were allowed to age and grow as the series progressed. In 2006’s Clerks II, Dante and Randal embark on a greasy adventure as fast food warriors after the Quick Stop burns to the ground. As the characters enter middle age, they become business owners after purchasing the Quick Stop and rebuilding it.
2022’s Clerks III delves into Randall’s newfound obsession with the art of filmmaking following a near-fatal heart attack. The film mirrored Smith’s own life in multiple ways. Smith himself suffered a near-fatal heart attack in 2018. Randal makes a film about being a clerk in Clerks III. Of course, Smith did the same thing back in the 90s with the original film.
