Elon Musk Claims Tesla Roadster Hits 60 MPH in Under 1 Second With New Footage

Tesla CEO Elon Musk is announcing that his Tesla Roadster will reach speeds never before known to mankind. Namely, the car will somehow fire up and go from 0 to 60 mph in under one second. Musk offered some updates about the Roadster on his platform, X (formerly Twitter).

He wrote, “Tonight, we radically increased the design goals for the new Tesla Roadster. There will never be another car like this, if you could even call it a car.” Musk also made it a point to talk about the “collab” taking place between Tesla and SpaceX, both owned by Musk. “Production design complete and unveil end of year, aiming to ship next yea[r],” Musk added. “I think it has a shot at being the most mind-blowing product demo of all time.”

In looking at the timeframe for production of the Tesla Roadster to reach the market, it all should be ramping up in 2025. The activity here for this car arrives more than six years after its first announcement to the world. One of the earliest claims about the Tesla Roadster was that it could go from 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds. The car reportedly would reach a speed of 250 mph at this level. And this takes place within a range of 620 miles, Top Gear reports.

Elon Musk Keeping An Eye On Tesla Stock

But the work on the car did not start automatically. Tesla has been busy focusing on the Cybertruck, Model 3, and Model Y offerings.

One metric to look at is how this news affects Tesla stock…or does it? Shares of Tesla rose 2.55 points to now stand at 204.77. This follows a slight move upward on Tuesday to finish at 199.73. According to Investor’s Business Daily, Tesla stock has risen by more than 6 percent in February.

While the Tesla Roadster gets itself on the marketplace sometime soon, the Police Cruiser found its way into the headlines. How? The City of South Pasadena, California, replaced all of its police cars with Tesla Police Cruisers.

They did this as a way to bring electric vehicles into their ability to combat crime. This was done on the heels of receiving about $500,000 in grant money. Now, the goal was to use this money to buy Teslas and use them going forward. It marks one of the first times in the United States that an entire police fleet has been switched over to the Tesla model.

“Some of them have K-9 capabilities, they’ll be utilized for both the patrol and the detective administrative,” according to Deputy City Manager Domenica Megerdichian. “The vehicles are undergoing unfitting.” Mergerdichian also noted that city government had been looking at different options, but settled on Tesla.

Cybertruck Owners Deal With Cold Weather Issues

In other Tesla-related news, some Cybertruck owners have shared their problems with the car. For instance, there were issues around how it held up (or didn’t hold up) during snowstorms. Cybertruck owners put pictures out on social media that showed their cars stranded out there. One big problem that cropped up with a number of them involved batteries dying in the cold weather. They didn’t hold up due to the harshness of the cold and snowy conditions.

But this matter doesn’t solely lie with Teslas. Electric vehicles, due to the nature of their car batteries, simply could not keep going for their owners. It’s an issue auto companies will look to fix through a possible deep dive into the life of EV batteries.
