Jay Leno is a car connoisseur to say the least. He's an incredible collector and respected restorer of classic vehicles. He has in his collection enough cars and motorcycles to fill three warehouses! He has proudly collected and carefully curated a combination of classics and some truly top-of-the-line new cars.
Most know Jay Leno for his comedy, but his passion for automobiles may be his preferable legacy. Leno's meticulous attention to preservation and historically accurate restoration is admirable. Anyone who meets him says his passion is sharing his collection with others, and his practiced and accessible style in front of the camera allows him a unique opportunity to educate everyone from enthusiasts to those with a casual interest in automobiles.
It was an incredibly difficult task to select only twenty-one from his massive collection, but we have managed to compile a list of our favourite cars for your eyes to behold.
Jay Leno was involved in a protracted legal battle with Jon Straus, a grandson on Macy's co-founders and Titanic victims Isador and Ida Straus. The car was left in a parking garage, and the garage owner threatened to sell the car at auction owing to $22,000 in unpaid parking fees. The fees were paid, but the car was near simultaneously sold to Leno at auction.
On the Chrysler Turbine Car, Jay Leno was quoted saying: "Most were destroyed by Chrysler for tax and liability reasons, which is a shame, because to this day everyone who rides in a Turbine says, "Whoa, this feels like the future!" You turn the key and there's a big woosh and a complete absence of vibration... I think it's the most collectible American car—it was so different. Most of all, the Chrysler Turbine is a reminder that all the cool stuff used to be made in the U.S. I hope it will be again." Source
